OPERATIONAL TECHNIQUE SULPFUR DIOXIDE SO2 ( PAUL )

REAGENTS:

SODIUM HYDROXIDE 0,01 mol

MIXED INDICATOR 4,4

HYDROGEN PEROXIDE 0,9 % (3 vol)

ORTHO-PHOSPHORIC ACID 85 %

OPERATIONAL TECHNIQUE, FREE SULFUR DIOXIDE (SO2): 

1-    In the spluttering flask are placed 10 mL HYDROGEN PEROXIDE of 0.9%, 3 drops of MIXT INDICATOR 4,4. Place the flask in its place and hold it with the clip.

2-    In the spherical flask (250 ml) are placed 30 mL of WINE TO ANALYZE and 10 mL ORTHO-PHOSPHORIC ACID 85%. Put it in its place without delay and put the clamp.

3-    Make spluttering air for about 20 minutes, by inject with a compressor or aspiring with bomb or vacuum tube.

4-    Remove the spluttering flask and value in its interior with 0.01 mol SODIUM HYDROXIDE until it turns to GREEN OLIVE color. Note the spent volume from the burette and multiply by 10.7 and get the free SO2 expressed in mg/L.

TOTAL SULPHUR (SO2):

1º Proceed in an identical manner to the FREE SULPHUR but warming the SAMPLE OF WINE with a Bunsen burner or heating plate.
